Is it hard to change?
If you currently use a Numbers Game strategy it is very easy to change to a 100% Success strategy. You can change in a few hours. All you need to do is make sure people focus on skills first, change goals to learning and activity goals first, change focus to coaching, training into workshops. You will not create confusion because leading with skills clears up the confusion.
What if other teams use a different strategy?
You must not expose your team to a different strategy or they will get confused. Talk to the other leaders and discuss what is the right strategy for everyone to use. Refer them to this site.
What about books and trainers?
If you allow your people to be exposed to books, CDs or training based on this Numbers Game – recruit and motivate mentality then you risk creating confusion. This includes people within the organisation who teach Numbers Game strategies. It is best to just exclude these influences and work with your team building confidence and competence until you are ready to make decisions. Exceptions are motivation and personal development education so long as it is not teaching Numbers Game attitudes [which unfortunately most are!]
